    Dedicated Route Truck Driver

    September 17, 2022 · Trucking Jobs , Job Descriptions , CDL Class A

Dedicated trucking is a unique job within the trucking industry that allows drivers to work a regular schedule. These routes are in high demand because of their predictability, stability, and consistent hours. Read on to learn more about dedicated driving jobs.

    Dedicated Truck Driver Job Description

Unlike most truck drivers, dedicated truck drivers are assigned a few routes, meaning they drive to the same places to deliver cargo. These routes are good for both the companies and the driver. Because their drivers are dedicated to a few warehouses or stores, suppliers can deliver a higher volume of freight. Truck drivers also enjoy these routes for their dependability.

Dedicated drivers can haul many different types of freight including refrigerated, dry van, and more. Being a dedicated truck driver is very similar to being a local, regional, or OTR truck driver with a few differences.

Dedicated drivers often enjoy the familiarity they have with their routes. They know the roads and the destinations they deliver to well, which can make their jobs more predictable and enjoyable. Driving fewer routes means drivers can develop relationships with Dedicated drivers who can work locally, regionally, or over the road, depending on the carrier they drive for.

    Dedicated Driver Job Requirements

Dedicated drivers must possess a CDL. Many companies require you to have some experience before you start on a dedicated route, typically about 6 months. Others, however, do not have any requirements, so you can start as a dedicated driver right after earning your CDL. Read more about what it takes to earn your CDL here.
